Any suggestions or links that would help with routing a body to remove wood/reduce weight?

I believe Chip has done this in the past. Hopefully he'll see this and chime in. The weight is the reason I don't own a T-40 anymore. Sure do love them though.

Remind me to post a link to our old T-60 page on the Internet Wayback Machine. The iPhone can do alot of things (like eat battery strength) but I haven't found a way to cut and paste links.

Edit: I can post the link to Chip's Corner on the original T-60 Forum, but the pictures that were there do not show up. Sad

I have reduced weight in several different ways, but can't find a way to post pictures to illustrate some of the ways that are easiest. I've asked in the past, but didn't find the answer.

I finally remembered how I posted my pics. I don't use a host and upload direct from my computer.

To do that:

Open a new thread or reply to an existing one.

Look at the icons above the box where you are typing.

You will see two icons that have an image that looks a little like an old Polaroid photo.

The one with the blue diskette allows you to upload direct from your computer.

The one that is just a "Polaroid" always you to link from your hosted image.

I don't have the picture routine down, yet, but will try with word pictures.

The easiest way to remove weight is to measure the pickup, neck pocket, control pocket, etc. from the front and draw them on the back of the body. The routing can be done anywhere but in those areas. Measure the thickness of the body in the area of the lightening pockets and route the wood away, leaving about 1/4 inch of wood. Then, use a 1/2 inch radius edge rounding bit on your router to eliminate the sharp edges on the back. The cuts can be smoothed with #100 grit sandpaper (white open cut type), and then finished with #320 paper.

For the ultimate weight removal, transfer the front cuts onto the back with pencil, then decide where it wouldn't interfere with the components attached to the front and route all the way through the body. Then do the same with the edge-rounding router bit.

I think I'll send the photos to Frank N. Peavey and get him to post them.

Tony, thanks! Those stacks of Peavey amps got my attention, too. Here's a shot of my silver striped Encore (containing 6 tubes).
I refer to it affectionately as my 'Little Monster'. Truth be told, it will carry a full stack (8x10) and peel paint-without complaint! affraid

You should have seen the stack of Peavey's on the other side of Chip's shop. That's only a small portion of what was there. Very Happy
