Original T40 Cases
This is my third attempt at posting this dumb question, and I hope I'm posting it in the right category. Does anyone know anything about the original T40 cases from 78-79. My is a rectangular case from the seventies, just don't know if its a T40 case or not. I'm just curious. Thanks.

Re: Original T40 Cases
If it has a gross green plush interior then it is a T-40 case. I think these preceded the molded rectangular ones. Not sure.
Re: Original T40 Cases
I remember discussing it on the T-60 Forum some time ago. I can't remember if Chip said these were used before the rectangle ones became available or during the transistion to the teardrop design.

Re: Original T40 Cases
There have been multiple cases offered by Peavey, and I'd like to see a photo from the OP in this thread.

Mine has the gross green interior. The case is in bad shape, but the bass is mint, so it did its job. I'll post a picture if I can figure out how. Thanks for all the info. I know it was kind of a dumb question, but I sure was wondering about it. Glenn

Re: Original T40 Cases
not a dumb question at all...no question is dumb. We're still trying to figure out if those were transition cases between the rectangular molded cases (which I've seen most 8M serial number guitars and basses in, and the 8M's are supposedly the earliest serial numbers besides the 6 digit numbers, but that's another story for another time..phew) AND the teardrop, most common cases. Unfortunately Chip doesn't remember and Peavey never really kept good track of serial number dating.
Re: Original T40 Cases
To further stir the pot... the majority of the 8M and 6-digit T's that I have documented have had the rectangle Peavey case. A few had the tear drop and few had what I classified as generic hardshell. Which is of course the case of discussion in this thread. If only I had known that these were factory correct back when I started collecting the info.
Oh yeah, there is a pic of these cases on the Peavey forum. I believe it's in the guitar part.

Re: Original T40 Cases
This looks like the typical T-40 case?

Five types of case!!!
Hi. Just spotted this one.
I can't get you pics at the moment but given time, I can.
There were five different types of case, from my experience and I have
examples of each one.
I have a '77 T-40, pre 8M, in a standard case, with olive green interior.
I have seen other basses of the same era - early issues, that have the
same case.
In the square cases, there were a blue interior and a brown.
In the later cases, the first series had three catches, none at the end
and the second series had four catches.
So, in total, there were five different types.
Hope this helps, will get some pics as soon as I can.
Cheers.
